TMBRA Spring Series
Race #1 Smithville
We have started the 2004 TMBRA Spring Series. The first race was at Rocky Hill Ranch outside Smithville. It had been raining most of the week before, and we woke up Saturday morning to snow. The trip down was pretty easy, followed the Duck crew down. We got to the course at about 8:00am Sunday, and got registered. We watched the sport race, and listened to the races talking about how muddy it was, and that the creek crossing were anywhere from 6" to 18" deep. Our race started at 1:00pm, and it had warmed up quite a bit. The start straight was quite a bit shorter than the DORBA races, but right after the start we hit the climbs. I hate climbing, just not enough time in the saddle. Ended up walking a few, and getting passed a lot. After the climbs, we hit the creeks and woods, and it was a blast. I really like the tight stuff, and the creeks were cold, but they had rock beds, so you could just zip right through. One of them was more of creek ride than crossing, it must have been 30 to 40 feet. I passed a few guys in this area, so I wasn't feeling to bad about how I was doing. The finish had a great downhill blast, just take off and hold on. Austin had a great race, 6th in Beginner Junior Men 13-14. this was his first full course race. He is pretty pumped about the series. I didn't fair as well, 26th out of 27 in Beginner Master Men 40-44, and 27th was a DNF. Austin even passed me and he started 7 minutes back. Oh well, no where to go but up. We are headed to Comfort on the 28th.
